To keep Greendate a community of real people, face verification is a required step when you create an account. We may also ask you to verify again if we detect suspicious activity on your account. Profiles that pass verification receive a verified badge, and accounts that have not completed verification have a lower daily limit on likes. Before the check starts, the app shows you this information and asks for your consent; nothing is recorded until you agree.
What we collect. During face verification, the app records a short video of your face using your device camera. The video is streamed directly to Amazon Web Services (AWS) Rekognition Face Liveness, which checks that a live person is present. AWS returns to us a liveness confidence score and a small number of still images extracted from that video (one reference image and up to three audit frames). We do not receive or store the video itself.
How we use it. We use this data only to:
We do not use face data for advertising, we do not use it to identify you to other users, and we do not use it to train artificial intelligence or machine learning models.
Where it is stored and who can access it. Verification images and scores are stored in our cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud (Firebase), and face templates are stored in AWS Rekognition. Both act as our data processors and process the data only on our instructions. Verification images may be viewed by our trust-and-safety staff through internal moderation tools when reviewing a verification or a fraud report. Face data is never sold, never shared with advertisers, and never shown to other users.
How long we keep it. We keep verification images, scores and face templates for as long as your account is active, so that we can re-check new profile photos and protect the community. When you delete your account, we delete your verification images, scores and face template within 30 days. If your account was suspended for violating our Terms, we may keep the face template (but not the images) for up to 2 years after deletion, solely to prevent the suspended person from creating new accounts.
Your choices. You can ask us to delete your face data at any time by deleting your account in the app or by contacting [email protected].
